Companies that produce the hardware and software of the gaming machines, equipment and peripherals used on the casino floors represent the Google- and Microsoft-like influence on technology to the casino business. These gaming manufacturers are often limited by legislation, such as that prohibiting the use of the internet for gaming purposes, not applicable to other market segments. This has forced competitors to compete in their own fishbowls during the same period that dot-coms introduced an entirely new, open-market approach to sharing information, technology and intellectual property. The openness of the internet has created entire new empires such as Amazon, e-Bay and Google.

At the same time, however, it essentially commoditized technology that previously created competitive advantages, thereby forcing new innovations that allowed companies to stay ahead of the competition. From a consumer point of view, many of these opportunities are still available as competitive advantages in the gaming industry. Not until 1998 has a standards organization been formed, and to date this visionary organization has less than 100 member organizations. Compared against the thousands of standards organizations with multiple of thousands of members in the general IT industry, there is much room for growth and opportunity. VegasSys will work with standards organizations, leading gaming manufacturers and emerging companies to focus on some of the initial projects:

Operating Systems and gaming standard convergence

SAS, GDS, BOD, S2S and others

Allowing gaming machines to act as customer portals

Management of unregistered players inside casino
Player interaction not related to gaming machine programming

Casino Marketing

Legal use of the cell-phone, internet and portable devices for marketing
